Waimea High School Army JROTC Air Riflery precision and Sporter team traveled to Honolulu to compete in the Civilian Marksmanship Program 3-position air riflery state championships. The Civilian Marksmanship Program took place at the Sacred Hearts Academy marksmanship range on March 31st, hosted with great success. Cadets Rochelle Uri and Fredy Padamada, both competed in the precision category while Cadets Rhomsen Fermin, Kaira Dolino, Ashten Gonzales, and Tyren Sasil competed in the Sporter category.
With an excellent performance, Cadet Rochelle Uri earned a first-place medal in the precision category in which she surpassed the minimum required score of 550. She is now subject to an invitation to the CMP National Championships at Camp Perry, Ohio. Cadet Fredy Padamada, on the other hand, placed 5th in the precision category with a score of 542 points. Lastly, Cadet Rhomsen Fermin was awarded a 3rd place bronze medal for scoring a 516 in the Sporter category as well.
Waimea is the only high school on Kauai with the precision-level rifles and shooting attire necessary to be competitive in the precision classification which is used in Olympic and college-level marksmanship competitions. We are so proud of the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of these young Cadets. Congratulations to all participants!
