Punahou School Army JROTC Service Learning – Genki Balls

Submitted by: C/1LT Emi Uohara

Punahou JROTC cadets teamed up with Punahou School 4th graders to make “Genki Balls” as a Service Learning project.  The Ala Wai canal that runs adjacent to Waikiki has been plagued with sludge buildup for many years.  The Microorganisms in the Genki Balls digest the sludge, oxygenate the water, and help to restore the original ecosystem.  Cadets and 4th graders produced several trays of Genki Balls that will be dispersed in the canal later this Spring.
