Jessica MacDonald-Gonzalez Awarded 4-year Army ROTC Scholarship

On the 10th of June 2022, James Monroe High School – Viking Battalion Commander and Los Angeles Unified School District All-City Colonel Jessica MacDonald-Gonzalez was awarded a 4-year Army ROTC Scholarship from Mr. Mario Guerra the Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army (CASA) valued at over $28,000.00.

The Inaugural Ceremony was held with the Los Angeles Strategic Officer Recruiting Detachment (LA SORD) MAJ Victor Shen, Los Angeles Unified School District's new Superintendent Mr. Alberto M. Carvalho, the second-largest school district in the U.S., and General Paul E. Funk II, Commanding, US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

The ceremony was to recognize Los Angeles Unified School District Future Soldiers, Senior ROTC Scholarship Winners, and West Point Appointments. Both General Funk and Superintendent agreed to continue their support of our youth who take the next step in the proud tradition of service to our nation.

Jessica will be attending the California State University Northridge in the fall of 2022. Jessica will be the first in her family to attend a 4-year college and plans to major in Law. Jessica performs a couple of last actions as the Viking Battalion Command & All-City Colonel by presenting General Funk and Mr. Carvalho with one of the Viking Battalions’ Challenge Coins – Hooah!
