What a great day! 53 Cadets from Hamilton Middle School spent the day at West High School as guests of the Pioneer Battalion JROTC. They had the opportunity to try out their Archery skills, played with robotic vehicles that could pick up and move just about anything. They drilled their selves until their feet hurt and then they got a taste of the Army workout routines used in the West H.S. program. They worked together to move A-Frames that were held up by members of their team. They had to communicate as they did a team crossing with only one sled between them and they even got to compete in an individual drill down for prizes. They had some BBQ hotdogs for lunch and got to mingle with the amazing cadets representing the Pioneer Battalion.

The West High cadets did a stellar job today. They were flustered and behind schedule right from the GO but we were able to turn it around and get our cadets through each event as many times as possible. In fact, no one knew about the struggle because they made it work and didn’t slow down one bit. Their work showed and their preparations were on point. I was proud to see the success of our former cadets now at West H.S. and I know that opportunities like this are the greatest of motivators for anyone, especially our kiddos at Hamilton. The Royals would love to visit again next year and that is because of the hard work that the West High cadets put into this to make it workable and engaging. Thank you Pioneers!

These kiddos would have made anyone proud! They followed instructions given by the cadets at West and moved with a purpose as they transitioned through the many challenges we faced today. They were engaged and excited about the learning and the sheer fun of it all! Hamilton Royals were in the house and they represented our school exceptionally well. I wish you could have seen the energy today. Please, when you see these kiddos, ask them about the trip. They left the West H.S. campus at two but maintained that excitement until the bell rang at 1510. What a great day to be a Royal!!!
