"Diligence Pays off For Cadets Who Want it!"
ANCHROAGE, AK -- Charish Burch received the best news every JROTC Cadet wants to hear after putting weeks of application work to various colleges: CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED!
Cadet Captain Burch, Battalion Executive Officer for the East Anchorage High School Thunderbird Battalion received a full three-year scholarship from the University of San Francisco in San Francisco, California.
Cadet Burch represents the third consecutive year that a Thunderbird Cadet received an ROTC scholarship after hard work and diligence to the application process was given. At the forefront of that hard work was one of the JROTC cadre at the East program First Sergeant Emilio Lobato. First Sergeant Lobato assisted the three Cadets in the application process from start to finish and with the urging of the SAI, Major Dan Erskine the Cadets remained committed to the process. "1SG Lobato was the guy who first introduced me to this scholarship after mentoring Cherish Pu'u a year earlier and helped push me to the next level of my life and get me here. It was very hard because I wasn't active in JROTC activities initially and my ACT scores were not the best at first but I was able to start getting myself in physical shape to participate more and get myself to study more to pass my ACT." Cadet Burch was also offered two other scholarships and has been offered additional scholarship monies for full room and board for all four years to those and this current offer which she has accepted.
It truly does pay off to commit yourself to your future.
