MEDFORD, NJ -- The Lenape HS U.S. Army JROTC program were provided an exceptional opportunity on January 28th as they had the honor of hosting Medal of Honor recipient and Wounded Warrior Master Sergeant (Retired) Leroy Petry as their guest speaker. They combined classroom participants of Battalion Leadership interfacing with a Zoom call that included other members of the Indian Battalion, as well as, Senior Cadets from their sister school, Temple University ROTC. Cadets were also honored to have the Eastern Pennsylvania Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, HON. Kenneth Wong, New Jersey Assemblyman and U.S. Navy SEAL Mr. Ryan Peters, and the 2d Brigade Cadet Command Leadership team of COL Frederick Toti, CSM Gregory Caywood, and JROTC Coordinator MS. Brenda Gainey all on the call and actively participating. MSG(R) Leroy Petry shared his amazing story from high school to present providing details of his heroics in Paktya Province, Afghanistan with the 75th Ranger Regiment. He also described in great detail his leadership and character traits that developed him as a person of character. Cadets were able to engage MSG Petry in a professional setting with a question and answer session that proved very rewarding. This cadet led operation culminated with making MSG(R) Petry an honorary member of our battalion and presenting him with a Lenape Indian Battalion hoodie. All-in-all an incredible experience that will provide a life-long memory. Hooah!
