In celebration of Read Across America, Meadowdale CTC Army JROTC cadets took a break from their usual drills and leadership training to engage with the youngest learners at Valerie Elementary School. The cadets visited classrooms from kindergarten through 4th grade, bringing stories to life for eager young listeners. Dressed in uniform, the cadets read a variety of books, emphasizing the importance of literacy while serving as role models for the students. Their presence not only encouraged a love of reading but also demonstrated leadership, discipline, and community service in action.
“It was great to see the kids’ faces light up as we read to them,” said Cadet Battalion Commander Brandon Wadsworth. “We hope we inspired them to read more and dream big.”
Teachers and staff at Valerie Elementary expressed appreciation for the cadets’ visit, highlighting the positive impact of older students engaging with younger ones. The event reinforced the power of reading and the strong connection between schools in the community.
Through their participation in Read Across America, our cadets proved leadership isn’t just about commands and formations—it’s also about giving back and making a difference, one story at a time.
