On June 3, 2025, members of the Garfield High School Army JROTC Elite Color Guard Team, faculty, alumni, Mariachi, parent volunteers, and community members came together at Garfield High School to honor Mr. Jose Huerta. Huerta has dedicated more than 30 years as an educator in the Los Angeles Unified School District as a teacher’s aide, school counselor, school dean, assistant principal, principal Garfield High and eventual superintendent in East Los Angeles, Ca.
