Howard High School – Army JROTC Cadets Dominate at McDaniel Raider Competition

On October 5, 2024, the Howard Lions Battalions’s Mixed and Male Raider Teams participated in their second Raider Competition at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, where they faced off against eight other teams. This rigorous competition encompassed a series of events designed to evaluate the cadets’ physical fitness and ability to collaborate effectively under pressure. The Raider Team, showcased their skills in a variety of events, including a 3k Run, the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) comprising one minute each of push-ups and sit-ups, a mile run, a Skills Test (Sprint, Drag, Carry), 50mm Rope Bridge, and the Round Robin Course. Throughout the Competition, the Howard Lions demonstrated resilience and teamwork, reinforcing their commitment to excellence as a team.

The hard work and dedication of the Howard Lions Raider Team gave an impressive overall performance, with the Male Team winning first and the Mixed Team winning third overall. The Male Team excelled in several categories, claiming first in the 3k Run and the APFT, second in Rope Bridge, and third in the Skills Test. Meanwhile, the Mixed Team earned first in the 50 mm Rope Bridge, second in both the Skills Test and APFT, and third in the 3k Run and the Round Robin Course. The Howard Lions Raider Team also demonstrated outstanding performances in the APFT, dominating all the Most Push-ups and Sit-ups awards in both male and female categories with C/Lynch, Levar for achieving the Most Push-Ups for Males, C/Nguyen, Vivien for the Most Push-Ups for Females; C/Ametepi, Ethan for Most Sit-Ups for Males and C/Kwon, Kaeley for the Most Sit-Ups for Females.

The Howard High School Lions Battalion Raider Team’s success at the competition is a
testament to their persistent commitment and dedication. With their amazing performance at this
competition, the team continues to solidify its reputation as a leading force in the community,
paving the way for future cadets to follow.
