On November 20, 2022 members of the Garfield High school Army JROTC Color Guard performed the opening ceremony for the 33rd Annual Mariachi Festival in Boyle Heights, California, and the unveiling of the United States Postal Service Mariachi stamp. We were honored to have JROTC Alumni Anahi Jimenez a junior at the University of Southern California (USC) who is a very talented musician to sing the National Anthem. She is also a former member of the GHS Mariachi.
We were entertained prior to the official opening by the Garfield High School Mariachi “Mariachi Los Alanos directed by Mr. Guillermo Gonzalez who later that day performed with his group. The festival was an all-day cultural event to enhance mariachi music, folklorico past and present generations. The highlight of the festival of this year’s event was the unveiling the US postal service Mariachi stamp by the Los Angeles Postmaster.
