The Charlotte Mecklenburg School (CMS) Learning and Teaching Department in conjunction with the CMS JROTC Directorate conducted the annual CMS JROTC Global Studies Book Study competition from September 21 thru December 7, 2021. This year's book entitled "Make Your Bed" by Admiral William, H. McRaven was the focused literature piece. The Rocky River high school JROTC Book Study Team placed first in the annual competition. This year’s prompt required JROTC programs to recognize people who are making an impact with a community service twist. The Ravens presentation focused on supporting the CMS 2024 Strategic Plan “Every student graduates with meaningful employment or higher education opportunities.” The team goal was to raise their schools college and career readiness platform, Naviance, usage. Naviance assists students with creating a plan after high school. The book study team also recognized four school staff members who embody the “Hero Code” along with the Army Values. The characteristics of each staff member, aligned with the teams project and their schools district plan. The drive to be a part of something bigger than themselves along with school-wide collaboration was the reason why the team was successful.
