MILILANI, HI - On Tuesday 27th of July, the Mililani High School Army JROTC held its first staff meeting of the year and the first in-person staff meeting in over a year and a half. The meeting was a great success in helping plan and shape the future of the battalion. The Executive Officer (XO) of the Battalion Leonardo Sabetta said, “ It was excellent to be surrounded by like-minded individuals. Planning out our upcoming school year. I’m very excited to see how this year goes as our entire staff is highly motivated and we have come up with some great ideas.” The staff all came with their best suggestions to help the battalion with a strong focus on Recruitment/Retention and Physical Training (PT). The Trojan Battalion's numbers dropped from 142 cadets in 2021 to 117 cadets this year, but the staff seems confident that they can improve those numbers throughout the school year.
The general consensus of the staff seemed to be that they were extremely happy that they could finally meet in person for the first time since quarantine started with Cadet Captain Cantrell commenting that “It felt good to be back in class.” Of course, the staff followed all health and safety guidelines with hand sanitizer, social distancing, and facemasks that were to be worn at all times. There was some concern when discussing this year’s events that Covid would interrupt our plans again. They came to the conclusion that they would not let Covid-19 Variant Delta deter them from achieving the battalion's goals. After a successful discussion, a Way Ahead was to return in two weeks to prepared the exact methods and to incorporate best practices from the Bridge and Hawaii’s Multiple School Unit (HMSU) with the Director of Army Programs to mentor and develop with SAI and AI and most importantly cadet’s, as they move forward. Following the staff meeting, the staff went outside for some team bonding with a game of kickball. All-in-all a successful meeting and a great start for the school year.
