ANCHROAGE, AK -- On 2 March, 2020, 1SG(R) Christopher Watts, AI of East High School JROTC, was given an Honorary Induction to the Old Guard. In the memorandum it states, "Though you strived to, unfortunately you never had the chance to serve in The Old Guard (TOG) during your notable career. However, you to continue to uphold the honor, values and traditions of those who came before you by teaching the young men and women of the East High School JROTC our Army Values. Your 1SG duties and responsibilities have carried on from past Soldiers under your charge, to the possible future leaders who could become tomorrow's Noncommissioned Officers (NCOs) and Officers in our Army for years to come. For that we thank you." The full memorandum is available below.
1SG(R) Watts tells us, "As birthday’s go this one will be a memory I will never forget and cherish the rest of my life." His son, Phillip, is assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Reg as the Battalions Logistics NCO. He has been doing it for almost three years. He coordinated, with approval from his chain of command, to give 1SG(R) Watts a personalized tour of the actual Tomb Guard training facilities and Guard House located within the Unknown Soldier Tomb complex. SGT Koepple was the assigned Tomb Member to conduct the tour for 1SG(R) Watts and his 11 year Old son, Andrew, who accompanied him to Maryland for this event. He continues, "It was all coordinated without the knowledge and I was completely oblivious to what the tour had in store beyond a really awesome tour guide in SGT Koepple. I also got to meet the Sergeant of The Guard SFC Chelsea Porterfield who worked very closely with my son to do this over a weekend clearing several security obstacles."
Congratulations, 1SG(R) Watts, and thank you for continuing "To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens".
