HOUSTON, TX -- On Friday, 27 December 2019, the Texan Battalion Color Guard assembled at Sam Rayburn High School to prepare for an exciting opportunity, to present the Colors at the 2019 Texas Bowl at nrg Stadium in Houston, Texas. The Color Guard worked out nervous jitters with jokes and stories from their Christmas break while preparing their equipment and uniforms for the event. The Cadets arrived to the stadium 3 hours prior to kick-off in order to participate in the on-field National Anthem dress rehearsal with Nashville recording artist, Julia Cole. The atmosphere was exciting even in the empty stadium.
After rehearsal, the cadets enjoyed a complimentary lunch and relaxed in the ready room until it was time to reenter the field, this time filled with more than 68,000 screaming Oklahoma State University and Texas A & M University fans. Still a little nervous, the cadets were in awe of the positive response they received from the crowd and the TAMU Corps of Cadets. As the time came to go out onto the Field, Cadet Color Guard Commander, C/LTC Erandhy Lopez, cleared her throat then belted out the command, “Forward, March.” The Color Guard proceeded onto the field, executed a perfect Colors, Reverse, and Present, Arms as Julia Cole made her way to the podium to sing a beautiful rendition to the National Anthem. Afterward, the cadets enjoyed an exciting NCAA bowl game, where the home team, TAMU won by the score of 21 – 24.
