WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Nine Blount High School Delegates went on an Educational Excursion to Washington, DC. The delegates were Shaterrya Haygood, Amelia Brown, Tsepo Mdluli, Alyssa Powell, Learria Hunter, Darnell Mackie, Ashten Prince, Demetrius Anderson, Torin Glover. Chaperones were Educator, Ms. Hollins & LTC Cross. This was a staff ride consisting of three phases: Preliminary Studies Phase (research paper), Field Studies Phase (travel to Washington, DC) and Integration Phase (discussing past, present & future implications, along with insights from the trip).
Highlights: honored Blount Alum, SSG Harrison Brown, who is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, sightseeing, meeting diverse people. The excursion included visiting the National Museum for African American History & Culture, touring the National Mall, and walking by the White House.
Culminating event was the running of the Army Ten Miler, the largest ten mile road race in the US (35,000 registered runners).
