LOS ANGELES, CA -- On September 28, 2019 Downey, Ca. members of the Garfield High School Army JROTC Mighty Bulldawg Battalion Color Guard had the distinct pleasure once again to perform the opening ceremony for the 20th Annual 40th Congressional District U.S. Service Academies workshop hosted by U.S. Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard.

In addition, cadets had the opportunity to get a full overview of the five United States Service Academies. U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Merchant Marine, U.S. Military Academy West Point, and the U.S. Naval Academy from their respective representatives. Our Color Guard team had the opportunity to hear Academy member’s parent’s perspective that were in attendance.

Moreover, day to day life at the Academies by a Senior West Point Cadet and second year Cadet from the Naval Academy. Most importantly, the nomination process and preparing for the rigorous challenges at the Academies while preparing in high school. Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard emphasized the importance of a nomination to one of the academies, while applying to them all, not just setting your mind on one, but check them all out. Furthermore, If you’re not accepted for one, maybe a possible nomination to another.
