Accreditation is a voluntary method of quality assurance developed more than 100 years ago by American universities and secondary schools. Its purpose distinguishes schools adhering to a set of rigorous educational standards. Accreditation is a research-based process for evaluating an institution’s organizational effectiveness. It examines the whole institution – the programs, the cultural context, the community of stakeholders – to determine how well the parts work together to meet the needs of students.
The Army JROTC program is accredited by AdvancED, the parent organization of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CAS)I. Having a program accredited by AdvanED means JROTC has demonstrated a commitment to student performance and continuous improvement in education. JROTC earned its accredited status by adhering to AdvancED Standards for Quality.

In August 2015, Army JROTC integrated AdvancED’s standards for student performance and continuous improvement into the former Organization Inspection Program. This integration created a new comprehensive assessment for all JROTC programs, known as the JROTC Program for Accreditation (JPA). The JPA consists of the collection of accreditation criteria and data that includes Cadet participation and the assessment of the instructor’s portfolio.
