West Point presented Cadet SGT Valeria Nieves and Cadet LTC Jose M. Gonzalez with the USMA Appointment Letters:

Brigadier General Tim Trainor, Dean of Academics, US Military Academy, West Point presented Cadet SGT Valeria Nieves and Cadet LTC Jose M. Gonzalez with the USMA Appointment Letters.

Valeria goals are to get a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in foreign language. She was accepted and offered a Presidential Nomination for a direct appointment to the US Military Academy, West Point, the US Merchant Marine Academy and the US Air Force Academy, Class of 2018.  It is very unusual for an aspiring college student to be accepted to these 3 very competitive and selective military colleges. She accepted the nomination to the US Military Academy, West Point.

Valeria pushes the envelope of excellence in Academics. She currently ranked number 1 of 130 student of the Class of 2014 with a 4.05 weighted GPA. Valeria has been a member of the National Honor Society since 10th grade and is the current president of the Antilles High School Chapter. Valeria has received the Presidential Education Award (2011), United States Achievement Academy - National Mathematics Award Winner (2000-2011) and George Eastman Young Leaders Award, Rochester University (2013).  She has earned a Varsity Letter in volleyball, basketball and indoor soccer. She was selected to the 2013-2014 All Star and All Alliance team in volleyball and basketball. She is

Jose's goals are to get a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and served his country as a US Army Aviator. He was accepted and offered an appointment to the US Military Academy Preparatory School, West Point and the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School. It is very unusual for an aspiring college student to be accepted to these 2 very competitive and selective military colleges. He accepted the appointment to the US Military Academy-West Point Preparatory School Class of 2015. Cadet LTC Gonzalez always pushes the envelope of excellence in academics with a 3.40 GPA. He has a challenging academic load is taking on AP English Language, Chemistry and Math Analysis/Pre-Calculus. He does not shy away from responsibility and is always ready to accept new challenges. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Cadet LTC Gonzalez was selected as the Battalion Commander of the Antilles High School Pirate Battalion for SY 13-14.
