Well before Sunday's noon kick-off between the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the U.S. Army JROTC National Champion Color Guard from Pasadena's Sam Rayburn High School was loading vehicles and headed toward NRG Stadium. After months of coordination and practice, they had been selected to present the Colors during the National Anthem for the Texans' second home game of the 2015 regular season at NRG Stadium.
Sam Rayburn's Army JROTC Color Guard presented the Colors in front of an NRG crowd of over 70,000 fans during the Houston Texans' 19 to 9 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to Sergeant First Class James Schneider, the JROTC Color Guard coach, "presenting the Colors for the Houston Texans is a huge honor for our JROTC cadets, particularly since this is the Texans first win of the 2015 regular season."
Members of the Texan Battalion NRG Color Guard included Right Guard, Cadet Second Lieutenant Daniel Valadez; U.S. Flag Bearer and Color Guard Commander, Cadet Captain Andrea Contreras; Texas Flag Bearer, Cadet First Lieutenant Arlene Garcia; Rayburn JROTC Flag Bearer, Cadet Staff Sergeant Odalys Garza; and, Left Guard, Cadet Sergeant First Class William Nava.
