Montgomery Central High School JROTC Service Learning project: Operation “Get Fit”

The Montgomery Central High School JROTC completed its Service Learning project on the 9th of March, 2016.  The project was named “Get Fit”.  The project was designed to that each LET level demonstrated subjects taught during the respective LET year.

The project took place at Montgomery Central Middle School with the cooperation of the Health and P.E. teachers and the school principal the cadets were able to reach out to approximately 300 students. The cadets prepared 5-7 minute briefings on nutrition, stress reduction and sleep deprivation, proper warm-up and flexibility training, and finally the various types of exercise to improve cardio-respiratory and muscular strength and endurance.

The activity following the briefings was circuit training.  Cadets led the circuit training and also participated which also helped to motivate the middle school students. The students were energetic and engaged during the briefings in which they could earn an Indian Battalion t-shirt for answering short Q & A following each briefing.  The circuit training was something very new to them also.  The reflections were very positive and they wanted to know when we would come back.  Definitely a positive impact on the young people of our community!!
