Lincoln HS JROTC Supports Muscular Sclerosis Event:

San Diego hosted the 150-mile Bike for Multiple Sclerosis with the support of Lincoln High volunteer cadets. Cadet 2nd Lt. Lindsay Medina had a chance to interview Pacific South Coast Chapter President Richard Israel about the Multiple Sclerosis foundation and its goal of raising money to find a cure for the MS disease.  “Bike MS is the largest fundraiser for the Pacific South Coast, which raises nearly 3 million dollars for research,” Chapter President Israel stated, “The goal of the MS Bike is to not only help raise awareness about the disease, but to pay for research and show members of the community that the foundation is committed to finding a cure. Money is also allocated to people who are living with the disease to help improve their lives,”

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that affects 2.3 million people around the world. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disabling neurological condition that is diagnosed in individuals between the ages of 20 and 40. Bikers come from all over the nation to help raise awareness and money in the hopes that scientist will be able to produce better treatment for the individuals affected. Lincoln High cadets arrived at the race location and were immediately delegated tasks by the staff members of the National MS Society. Cadets helped with unloading truck cargo, event set up, providing refreshments and supporting throughout the race. The cadets also helped in the creation of a message board to inspire and encourage bike riders. Members of a community can continue to support a search for a cure for MS by donating, or participating in foundation events such as the Bike for Multiple Sclerosis or initiate contact with the National MS Society or South Pacific Coast Chapter.
