Leavenworth High School JROTC march in Leavenworth, Kansas Veteran's Day Parade:

The Leavenworth High School JROTC Battalion cadets braved temperatures in the teens and single-digit wind chills to participate in the Leavenworth, Kansas Veteran’s Day Parade—known as the largest Veteran’s Day Parade west of the Mississippi—on November 11th.  Over 300 cadets, joined by 60 Junior Guard members from local elementary and middle schools, marched the 1-mile route through town, to the delight of the many half-frozen spectators lining the route.

Two World War II-era Army Jeeps driven by veterans joined the cadets and pulled the battalion cannon.  The boys and girls drill teams, the Pioneer Guard and Cavalry Angels,  and its Drum and Bugle Corps gave brief performances in front of the reviewing stand for the local dignitaries and veterans in attendance, which included the Commanding General of the Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, LTG Robert B. Brown.
The Pioneer Battalion, which began in 1897 and was officially organized as a JROTC unit in 1917, has participated in the Leavenworth Veterans Day Parade for over 85 years.  It currently consists of 371 cadets organized into seven companies.
