Golden Knights Parachute Team Jumps into Atholton High School
By Cadet Major Emily Smith
On a beautiful day in May, students at Atholton High School were given the opportunity to experience a very unique event. The U.S. Army’s official, The Golden Knights, decided to drop in for a visit on Thursday afternoon to connect the Army with the Atholton student body. However, as a special and unexpected treat, the Superintendent of Howard County Schools, Dr. Renee Foose, took part in the demonstration as well. She performed the tandem jump into the football stadium with the Golden Knights.
The event was sponsored by the Atholton High School JROTC Department. The cadets planned and executed all the support functions to make the event the success it was.
This event was a showcase for Atholton’s JROTC as well as for the U.S. Army, connecting the two together and with the rest of the Atholton student body. Similarly, the idea that the Superintendent would be parachuting alongside the Golden Knights was a way for her to connect with the student body.
