Cadet LTC Thaddeus E. Brown IV gets sworn into the US Naval Academy:
C/LTC Thaddeus Brown was the Salutatorian of Class “2014” at Legacy High School, Mansfield, Texas. In August 2010 a 5’2” little kid stepped into the Bronco Battalion with big dreams of someday becoming a United States Marine Officer and possibly one day flying F-35 fighter jets. Four years later his dreams have started to become a reality. Thaddeus accepted his nomination to the United Stated Naval Academy after turning down several full-ride academic scholarship offers including Rice University and Stanford University.
On July 1, 2014 Sergeant Eric Smith (Senior Army Instructor) had the honor and privilege of personally swearing Thaddeus into the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. It was a sad, but yet a very proud day for SGM Smith. It was sad in a sense he was losing the best Battalion Commander the Bronco Battalion has ever had in command. Thaddeus spent two years as the Battalion Commander and lead the battalion through its first Cadet Command formal inspection. The battalion received its title as an “Honor Unit w/Distinction” scoring 590/600 points on the inspection. The proud sense SGM Smith experienced was seeing this cadet transition from young boy into a man.
Thaddeus displayed academic excellence all four years of high school and demanded this of his cadets. He graduated ranked number 2 of 400 students in his class. He was the National Honors Society President. He attended the Texas Boys State and was elected Land Commissioner. He was the Armed Drill Team Commander for three years and earned a Varsity letter in cross country.
The Bronco Battalion and Legacy High is very proud this fine cadet. SGM Smith and MSG James Law are already making plans to attend the Class 2018 graduation. “Broncos Lead the Way”
