Boca Ciega High School JROTC Raider Team Earns the title of District Champions.

After an extensive season, consisting of an abundance of practices, and extensive workouts, the Boca Ciega High School JROTC Male and Female Raider Teams earned the title of District Champions. This past weekend BCHS’s JROTC Raider Teams competed at Alonso High School in Tampa, Florida against other Pinellas and Hillsborough US Army JROTC Raider/Fitness teams. Boca Ciega brought one male, one mixed, and one female team to compete. Each team consists of twelve people, and all events revolve around the concept of teamwork.
The competition involves five events, which were: 5KM (3.1 Mile) Team Run, One-Rope Bridge (Construct a bridge out of rope to cross an obstacle), Cross Country Rescue (Run One mile with a stretcher holding 120 pounds and 3 ruck sacks weighing 30 pounds each, Tire Flip (Flip 300 pound (females) or 500 pound (male) tire 100 yards, and a Fitness Challenge /Obstacle Course.
Competing as a Raider requires the utilization of the many values that are taught in JROTC. These include things such as ethical values, good citizenship, leadership potential, effective communication, logical thinking, improved physical fitness, incentive to live drug-free, positive self-motivation and management, the skills to work as a team member and motivation to graduate from high school and pursue a successful career.
Boca Ciega’s male and female teams both did very well at this weekend’s competition. The female team won first place in the tire flip, Rope Bridge, cross country rescue and the 5K run. They also won second place in the fitness challenge. The male team won first place in the cross country rescue and the 5K run, second place in the fitness challenge and third place in the tire flip. Both of these teams placed first overall and will be competing at the state championship January 22 -23 in Lake Wales, Florida.
